Opt-Out

OPT-OUT REIMBURSEMENT UPDATE:
Direct deposits have been released to students who were successful in their opt-out attempt as of November 5, 2024. Please check all bank accounts in your name for your reimbursements. If you haven’t received it yet, this may mean your direct deposit was rejected (names didn’t match, transposed a number, etc) and a cheque will be issued and mailed to the address on your application. An email notification will be sent out early next week about rejected direct deposits.

If you chose the cheque option, cheques will be mailed out once the Postal Strike has concluded. If it looks as though the strike will take longer than expected, we will look into alternative methods for distribution.

Please make sure you’re checking your email and junk mail folders to make sure your opt-out application wasn’t rejected. If you were rejected, members have until November 15 to make any adjustments to their application, and then everything will be taken on a case by case application.

Undergraduate Students voted on a referendum in order to have Health and Dental coverage automatically provided to all students enrolled in 18 units or more, over the Fall and Winter terms. You may only opt-out if you have extended external coverage.

If you are covered by another health or dental plan, but you are not covered 100%, you may utilize your MSU Health and Dental plan coverage and combine it with your current plan. You can find the full details of the plan by following the links HERE. Look into your benefits and compare the two plans before you opt-out, as the MSU plans may provide some coverage options that are not currently available to you.

The opt-out for the 2024-2025 year is now closed. There are no exceptions to this deadline. Next year’s opt-out period will be September 1-30, 2025. Please click on ‘More Info’ on how to opt-out.

**Please note that those who have the intention to be enrolled in 18 units or more but haven’t been charged the fees yet are expected to opt-out during the September time-period.
